  2. Food/ Agriculture • Hunted/fished for food • Ate edible berries • Heated rocks in fire, then put them in water to cook food • There was no need for agriculture

  3. Clothing • Used cedar bark • Meant for shedding water(not warm) • No shoes • Women wore cedar bark skirt with buckskin slip

  4. Shelter • Made large houses out of cedar planks • Several families per house • No windows & low roof • Thick wood

  5. Geography/Climate • Narrow coastal land • Rugged coastline • Rivers/lakes/mountains • Mild temperature

  6. Social Organization • Specific roles for everyone • Chief rules(based on wealth) • Nobles/commoners/slaves • Membership displayed on totem poles, canoes, boxes & masks

  7. Contact • Trade • War • Started wars for land, slaves, copper, or blankets

  8. Other Information • Customs passed down in stories, songs, dances • Believed spirits • Only people who could go to spirit world were Shamans/Medicine Men Medicine Man
