  3. Issues/Challenges • Limited HCP education/training/tools • Limited/out-dated research • Few opportunities for Knowledge Transfer/Exchange • Prevention • Appropriate/effective response • Sharing of “promising approaches”

  4. Focus of Key Activities • Development and dissemination of info and resources to HCPs • Coordination and assessment of “promising approaches” • Identification of public health strategies that influence/inform prevention and intervention • Support meetings of health care professionals and NGOs (sharing knowledge and promising approaches)

  5. Key Activities Current: • Gender Based Analysis • Scan and critical analysis of screening and assessment tools • Analysis of elder abuse in First Nations communities • Support for first national elder abuse conference (Nov 09) • Caregiving issues and elder abuse

  6. Key Activities Upcoming: • National elder abuse e-newsletter • Directory of Services for Older Victims of Violence • National online knowledge exchange • Across the Generations: Respect all Ages – A National Adaptation • Neighbours, Friends and Families: A National Adaptation

  7. Key Activities • “Snapshot 2009” – highlights of promising approaches • Knowledge Exchange opportunities (Oct 2 – “Fireside Chat” – Bias Free and Diversity Approaches) • Evaluation of tools • Training/education for PSWs and other caregivers

  8. Outcomes • Guidelines for creating and evaluating bias-free, gender and culturally relevant policies and practices • Understanding of context and approaches in First Nations communities • Knowledge Exchange (Fireside Chat, Conference, e-newsletter)

  9. Moving Forward • Development, evaluation and dissemination of tools for health care providers • Sharing promising approaches • Prevention (focus on youth) • Education • Facilitating networks (engaging HCPs with others)
