inQ Features • Familiar “Windows Explorer” GUI • Buttons • Top: Explorer like • Side: Common SRB operations • Pull-downs • Resource/container • Graphical navigation • Metadata-view • Tree-view • Content-view • Plus/minus sign for permissions, metadata, & sub collections • Drag and drop
inQ Notes • Can store connection parameters • Pay attention to default resource • Upload limited files using up arrow • Upload unlimited files using drag and drop • Download via arrow or drag and drop • Querying metadata, use AND to join small queries into a complex one • Setting recursive permissions? Click check box first.
inQ Step by Step • Connect • download “inQ” http://www.sdsc.edu/srb/inQ/inQ320.zip • Enter in Connection Parameters • Name: <username> (du?) • Host: srb.sdsc.edu • Domain: npaci • Port: 8544 • Authorization: ENCRYPT1 • Notice the “Add New Connection” button, click it • Enter Password: 2005class • Connect • Disconnect • Reconnect
inQ Step by Step 2. Explanations • Where you are: In your home directory • Naming conventions: • Home dir: /home/<username>.<domain> • Bullseye looking icon(s): Available SRB Zones • The buttons: • Top bar “explorer like” • Right bar “SRB specific” • Click the + box next to your home dir • The smiley faces (nice feature) show the permissions for this object, and this object alone (object = file or folder) • srb@sdsc = SRB admin account that made your account • Select your ‘defaultResource’ (upload resource) • “Use Resource | Container” Drop down, select “du-unix”

Download this power point • Double click on “Demo” folder • Double click on “SRB-Tutorial” folder • Notice the metadata for this folder in the metadata-view • Single Click on 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-inQ.ppt • Click on download button, select Desktop, OK • Drag and Drop 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-overview.ppt to Desktop • You have just downloaded via inQ’s two download methods
inQ Step by Step 4. The grid is all in the “Details” • Double click on files-1 folder • Click in ‘content-view’ area to select it • Now click on the ‘Details’ button (top right) • Notice the ‘Resource’ column • And the ‘owner’ column • Look at the permissions of each file (click + box next to files) in the ‘tree-view’
inQ Step by Step 5. Tell me about that picture, without viewing it • Double click on cars folder • Looks pretty normal • Click on roman.jpg in the tree-view and notice the metadata-view • What’s that M pyramid thing? This is metadata about this file. • So, what kind of car do I drive?

Now find my car and get it • Click the minus next to Demo folder • Click the “Query” button ( Q on a pyramid ) • Enter “Make = Ford” Click Add button • Click OK • Now in Saved Queries area with results • Almost what we want (pretend there are thousands) • Need to refine query • Click the “Query” button again • Enter “Model = Mustang GT” Click Add button • Click OK • Double click roman.jpg in content-view

Lets store something • Click the “Jump Home” button • Click the “Create Collection” button (folder) • Enter tutorial • Click OK • Double click on the tutorial folder • Click “Upload” button • Look in: Desktop and select 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-inQ.ppt • Click Open • From the Desktop, Drag and Drop 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-overview.ppt
inQ Step by Step 8. Make a copy of 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-overview.ppt to experiment with • Click on 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-overview.ppt in content-view • Click the “Copy” button • Click the “Jump Home” button • Click the “Paste” button
inQ Step by Step 9. Giving away permissions • Click on 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-overview.ppt in your home directory • Click the “Access Control” button (gold key) • Click “Add…” button • Left window, select “sdsc” • Notice the right window, now full of users from SDSC • This is an example of how you would select “a user” • Left window, select “groups” • Notice the right window, now full of groups and domains • Right window, select “npaci” • Bottom menu, click on down arrow • Bottom menu, select “read” • Click OK • You have just given everyone with a npaci domain (doubles as a group) read permission to your file
inQ Step by Step 10. Make some user defined Metadata • Click on 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-overview.ppt in the tree-view • Click the “Create Metadata” button • Notice Attribute field waiting • Type “Student” hit enter key • Notice Value field waiting • Type <your Name> hit enter key
inQ Step by Step 11. Trash it • Click on 2005-07-25-SI-SRB-overview.ppt in content-view • Click the “Delete” button (trash can)
inQ Step by Step 12. What Storage? Just for extra credit • Double click the “Resources” icon in the tree-view • Notice all the available resources • The ones with a big L are Linux • The ones with hpss in name are Tape • The ones with cache in name are the disk caches for tape resources • This viewable area will come in handy when dealing with your containers. What’s a container? That comes later.
