Well our little Lego-car driver’s protested that this activity was unsafe for them since the cars did not have any brakes. So they asked if we could install some brakes on the cars. That is what we will do today. Start thinking about how you could construct some kind of braking device on your Lego cars. 4

Process) SPI 0807.Inq.2 (Sci Tools & Procedures) SPI 0807.Inq.4 (Cause and Effect) SPI 0807.12.4 (Mass and Weight) Notes • Activity: • Construct a 4-wheel Lego car with a brake per the provided illustration (see the orange handout) • Measure the mass of the black weight (in grams) • Measure the mass of the car without the weight (in grams) • Add the mass of the car and the weight together (in grams) • Confirm that the car will roll forward • Turn the car around backwards, and place it at the top of the ramp. Observe to see if the car rolls backwards or not. • If it rolls backwards, measure how far it rolls before it stops in (in centimeters) • Complete the journal work sheet (see other image on screen) • Start with your prediction 6
