Project “INTEGRATE” Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to determine what this group will do in an effort to accomplish the goals and objectives of Project INTEGRATE.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Incorporate the elements of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). Create environments that promote a positive perception of enforcement and community policing. The Albany Police Department (APD) will lead Hot Spots Policing. Incorporate a Re-entry initiative to address individuals returning to low-income, high crime neighborhoods post incarceration.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Incorporate mentoring at risk youth. Enlist the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging staff to train local law on elder maltreatment, awareness, and response. Link the DPH Student Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) with residents of West Central Albany. Establish a homeless initiative to address homeless issues of West Central Albany.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Collaboration with the McIntosh Neighborhood Watch Group. Local project staff will work closely with Choice Neighborhood Resident Planning Group. Project partners will continue to work with community to enhance and develop community capacity.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Incorporate the elements of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). A. Improved street lighting, enhanced video surveillance, identified code enforcement, and razing of abandoned housing. B. City of Albany will lead strategy through partnership with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Create environments that promote a positive perception of enforcement and community policing. A. Traffic safety by uniformed officers who are not investigating murders which will allow for positive interactions between community and law enforcement. B. Law enforcement officers will be invited to help lead classes (such as child safety seat classes) based at the local Health Department and wellness centers.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices The Albany Police Department (APD) will lead Hot Spots Policing. A. Reduce disorder by using off duty APD officers deployed in 6-hour shifts, 2 shifts per day, 6 days per week, based in the neighborhood. B. Will feature a combination of patrol modes, including foot-beat and bicycle, and C. Will use such techniques as increased misdemeanor arrests, dispersal of loiterers, and problem-oriented policing tactics.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Incorporate a Re-entry initiative to address individuals returning to low-income, high crime neighborhoods post incarceration. A. Albany Area Community Services Board (AACBS) B. Local Office of Probation and Parole.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Incorporate mentoring at risk youth. A. Knights of Justice Program with DCSS School Resource Officers and Local Law Enforcement. B. Incorporation of Adopt-A- Cop program with DCSS School Resource Officers and Local Law Enforcement.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Enlist the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging staff to train local law on elder maltreatment, awareness, and response. A. Will use the research-based Certified At-Risk Adult Crime Tactics Specialist Field Guide.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Link the DPH Student Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) with residents of West Central Albany. A. Establish a wellness curriculum in collaboration with K-12 staff and parents. B. Will engage local schools while providing health information to parents in a venue that does not require additional childcare. C. Will work with the local Public Defender’s office, businesses, and area courts to enact policies that promote the safety of families, encourage reporting, and enforce existing and new laws.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Establish a homeless initiative to address homeless issues of West Central Albany. A. With the assistance of the Albany Area Community Services Board (AACSB), Project INTEGRATE will assign a staff member who will help these individuals receive appropriate services, which might include counseling, job training, and housing assistance.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Collaboration with the McIntosh Neighborhood Watch Group. A. Will collaborate with the McIntosh Neighborhood Watch Group to increase gang awareness, graffiti, enforcing parking, court monitoring, neighborhood relations, bullying, and healthy lifestyles. B. Based in the identified area using off-duty APD officers, Albany State University (ASU) campus police and the Sheriff’s Office. C. Implemented in close cooperation with the Choice Neighborhoods Public Safety Working Group and Resident Planning Group.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Local project staff will work closely with Choice Neighborhood Resident Planning Group. A. Project staff will foster resident engagement through meeting coordination and facilitation. B. Staff will field resident concerns, provide resources as needed, and act as the formal communication link among residents, Community Leader, and stakeholders.
Project “INTEGRATE” Proposed Evidence – Based Policies & Practices Project partners will continue to work with community to enhance and develop community capacity. A. The Injury Prevention Program (IPP) and its statewide and local partners will facilitate use of community-oriented approaches such as Weed and Seed, community policing, and community prosecution.
