Sexual Identity – YRBS Data • 9% of HS boys and 12% of HS girls identify themselves as other than heterosexual (gay, lesbian, bisexual or not sure) • 4% of HS boys and 8% of girls had same sex sexual contacts Source: 2011 YRBS
Consequences • Early pregnancies, births • 9% of births statewide are to women 15-19 years of age (~1500 births per year) • STIs and their health consequences • Risks for pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and other serious conditions • 1 in 4 sexually active adolescent females have an STI • High rates of sexually transmitted infections
