  5. Do I Have To Interview? The interview is one of the most important steps to getting a job. The cover letter and resume can interest an employer, but the interview will make or break your chances of landing the job. It is normal to be nervous and scared, but being prepared will help you do your very best.

  6. Interview Preparation Re-read the job advert, application pack, job description • What skills have they asked for? • What personal qualities are desired? • What type of organisation are they? (ethos, management style, culture) Review CV or application form & covering letter • How do you meet the criteria / where are the gaps? • What would you ask if you were them? • Are there any weaknesses you might be probed upon? • What probing questions might they give about your answers • What other action did you consider?

  7. What impression are you hoping to create? • First impressions very powerful • Dress appropriately • Allow time to relax • Entrance, introductions & handshake • Smile and make eye contact • Be aware of own movements • Watch body language of interviewer • Speak clearly and articulate

  12. Competency based interview Company identifies key skills required for job, for example: teamwork, communication skill, interpersonal skill, problem solving, etc. Designs questions to elicit evidence of skills Emphasis on past behaviour as predictor of success

How did you deal with them?” Communication Skills  “Describesituation when you had to persuade others to support your view.
