IPC media, is the leading consumer magazine and digital publisher in the UK. IPC media owns more than 60 iconic media brands. IPC is the creator of content for multiple platforms like: online, print, events, mobile and tablets. The brand circulates around approximately 26 million adults in the UK, two thirds of this being female and the remaining 40% being male. The award winning portfolio also reaches over 25 million users every month globally. What is ICP media?
Why would IPC media be suitable to publish ‘Rock Paper Scissors’? I believe that IP media would be a well suited institution to publish my rock magazine: ‘Rock Paper Scissors’. This is because, as IPC is so broad and stretches across so many other media platforms, given the declining circulation of magazine such as ‘MOJO’, ‘Kerrang!’ and IPC’s very own ‘NME’ my magazine would still be able to continue, even through the decline of print magazines all together. IPC also publishes a wide variety of print magazines like ‘Woman's Weekly’ and ‘Amateur Photographer’ which would help my magazine broaden its readers, as a regular reader of an IPC media published magazine may wish to try another magazine, hypothetically turning to another IPC magazine (which hopefully would be: ‘Rock Paper Scissors) This, of course wouldn’t necessarily be the case, however, another reason for choosing IPC media is another one of there many brands. IPC media publish a print magazine called ‘Teen Now’ which of course is a teens magazine. I am aware that ‘Teen Now’ mainly revolves around pop culture whereas my magazine revolves around rock. But, by publishing my magazine (aimed for teens also) it may attract a larger teen audience to my print magazine through IPC. Finally, another reason to chose IPC is its well known magazine NME. NME is of the same genre of ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ although both have different USP’s. I believe that publishing my rock music magazine along with NME would be beneficial because: NME is so popular and the only rock music magazine IPC media owns, so adding another can surely be good for IPC and the future of my very own magazine.
Demographics Furthering the discussion on NME and IPC, I believe that NME and ‘Rock Paper Scissors share some of the same demographics. NME’s target audience would be those in their late teens, but still in education, however, audience members, ideally, still have a decent disposable income. NME’s demographic would be: passionate about music, aspirational and is interested in fashion, this links to ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ demographics which are people also passionate about music and aspirational (although in a different sense). However, the interest in fashion, obviously, does not link to ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ as it’s USP is: Psychological understanding as to why music can help an individual with a mental illness such as depression, this slight difference is only through the magazines varying USP’s which h can be expected with any magazine. The slight difference would help ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ circulate better, as no one will want to buy two magazines that are exactly the same.
Multi Platforms As I have previously stated, circulation for print magazines simply aren’t the same as before. NME have lost approximately 16.4% of its circulation since last ABC surveys, this is due to the increase in smart phone technology. Many people in society today have a smart phone which acts as a calendar, computer, compass, T.V, DVD player (e.t.c) which totally defeats the object of so many appliances. Smart Phones can also access the internet, therefore being able to access print magazines online, meaning; that people no longer have to go out and buy magazines, with regular subscriptions of magazines being sent straight to their phones people don’t even need to leave the house anymore. Due to this, I believe it would be beneficial to my magazine if IPC media were to publish it. I believe this because, IPC have many multi media platforms ranging from events to actual online magazines for example, NME has its very own IPad edition. This encourages me towards IPC media because, with declining circulation of print magazines, it isn’t looking like a positive future for the magazine industry, so to avoid such a catastrophe and masses of money loss, online magazines are available to subscribe to, ensuring that my magazine would also be safe from total disuse through IPC’s very capable multi platform use. These multi platforms will also open up a gateway for profit, as my magazine may just start in print and online form, but may soon progress to live events. Such events will earn money through ticket sales and therefore (although paying for live bands and venues) are fully able to become profitable brands.
