  1. Bell Ringer – 11/24/08 The Industrial Revolution blossomed in America during the 1800s. • List 8 objects you use daily that would not have been available to Americans in the 1800s. • List 4 objects that Americans may have used then but do not need now.

  2. Partner Assignment • In groups of 2-3, complete the “Creating a Timeline” assignment on page 216. • Include 7 dates and events from 1789-1815. All from Ch 6.

  3. Industrial Revolution • Occurred first in Europe and then in U.S. • Indst. Revolution - Time period of advancements in innovations, science, technology, transportation, and business.

  4. Eli Whitney • Invented the cotton gin in 1793. It quickly separated cotton fibers from seedpods. • Increased the economy of the South – kept slavery profitable.

  5. National Road • Americans knew reliable roads and transportation were key to expansion West • The federal government agreed to fund a National Road. Construction began in 1811 in Cumberland, Maryland

  6. Homework • Read Ch 7, Sn 2 • Answer questions 1, 2, & 4b on page 237
