Jesus Does care?
Is Jesus • A GOD OF INDIFFERENCE OR CONCERN? • ONE WHO TAKES NOTE OF ME OR IS HE TOO DISTANT? • TOO BUSY & IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER SOMEONE LIKE ME?
PSALM 142:1-4 “I cry out to the Lord with my voice; with my voice to the Lord I make my supplication. I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble. When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then You knew my path. In the way in which I walk they have secretly set a snare for me. Look on my right hand and see, for there is no one who acknowledges me; refuge has failed me; no one cares for my soul”
Once the apostles questioned our Lord’s care(Mark 4:35-38) “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you”
“. . .And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will” (Matt. 10:29) Jesus Notices All Things(Great & Small) see also Luke 12:22-34 “Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Lk. 12:6, 7) “Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Lk. 12:6, 7)
Looking at what Jesus has done PROVES thatJesus does care! “You will know them by their fruits. . .Every good tree bears good fruit. . .Therefore by their fruits you will know them” (Matt. 7:16, 17, 20)
1 Jesus Became Poor That You Might Become Rich!
2 Corinthians 8:9 • “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich”
Facts From2 Corinthians 8:9 • “Grace” is what comes through Jesus’ work • Grace is something to be known • Jesus was rich • Jesus became poor • Jesus did it all for you Where do you lay up your treasures? Luke 12:33
2 Jesus Became Homeless That You Might Have A Home!
No Place To Rest “And Jesus said to him, ‘Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head”(Matt. 8:20) • sad thought that created creatures lived more luxuriously than the Creator on earth • didn’t have any room for him His birth (Lk. 2:7) • John 14:1-3; 2 Corinthians 5:1-6
3 Jesus Became Hungry & Thirsty That You Might Eat & Drink! “And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death” (Ps. 22:15)
Hungry & Thirsty • hungry in the wilderness of testing (Matt. 4:1-4) • thirsty on the cross (Jn. 19:28)
Jesus Teaches A WomanJohn 4:5-15 • The Son at Sychar, “El Elohe Israel” (vv. 4, 5; cf. Gen. 33:19, 20) • Sitting by a well, at noon (v. 6) • Jesus ignored social prejudices (v. 9) • Jesus shifts the attention to her need of “living water” and appeals to her curiosity (v. 10) • Woman still focused on physical (vv. 11, 12) • Jesus appeals to eternal water (vv. 13, 14) • Woman still not perceiving the spiritual nature of this water (v. 15; cf. 6:30-34) • Jesus knew her life’s story (vv. 16-19)!
Matthew 5:6 • “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled” • physical food and water sustains physical life • spiritual food and drink sustains the soul’s life • by such an illustration, Jesus demonstratesour daily dependence upon God • by such an illustration Jesus shows that there is more to life than what we touch and taste
admonished to seek the eternal food John 6:26, 27 rebuked because of physical interest • “Jesus answered them and said, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him”
Many (Today) • only seek physical fulfillment in religion • change the purpose of the church to a physical and carnal outreach • “. . .who suppose godliness is a means of gain” (1 Tim. 6:5) “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17)
Proverb’s Principle • “As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country”(Prov. 25:25) What about the GOSPELfrom HEAVEN?
Psalm 42:1, 2 • “As a deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?”
4 Jesus Became A Curse So That You May Be Blessed!
Galatians 3:13, 14 • “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith”
Cursed For Us • would one become a curse for you if he didn’t care about you? • Jesus became sin that you might be righteous (2 Cor. 5:21) • Jesus died that you might live(Heb. 2:9-10) • Not ashamed (Hebrews 2:11)!
Romans 5:8, 9 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” God demonstrates his loveby hisblood!
And His “Blood”IsApplied To TheChurch “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood” Acts 20:28
Mental Impressions RegardingJesus • That He gave up all to save you • That His death is a testimony of His love for you • That His death is a testimony of the terrible wrath to come (1 Thess. 1:9, 10) • That we need to get into Christ to reach heaven’s blessings • That we need to walk in the love of the cross (Eph. 5:1, 2) • That Jesus really “. . .cares for you” (1 Pet. 5:7)
The Real Questions Are: • Do you care for Him? • Do you care for His Church? • Are you in Christ? • Does your obedience prove your love? “If you love Me, keep My commandments” John 14:15
“ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS” (EPH. 1:3) SALVATION (2 TIM. 2:10) IN CHRIST BAPTISM ROMANS 6:3, 4 “NO CONDEMNATION” (ROM. 8:1) “NEW CREATION” (2 COR. 5:17)
