  1. WHAT IS JOB POSTINGS DATA? (REAL-TIME LMI?) • Real-time LMI is made up of job postings by occupation obtained from Internet job boards, company websites, and newspapers using spidering technology. • Data are collected with regular frequency and de-duplicated. • Data are parsed to produce information on hiring requirements including education, experience, skills, and certifications.

  2. REAL-TIME LMI: BENEFITS AND LIMITATIONS BENEFITS LIMITATIONS A job posting is not necessarily a job vacancy Some occupations and employers do not use online job ads for recruitment Job posting information can be “noisy” – this is private software, not public data with a transparent collection methodology Education and experience level Salary Duplication and false classification Must be verified! • Current and Continuously updated • Geographically specific • Actual job ads, not estimates • May include new and emerging occupations • Supplement to traditional LMI, not a replacement

  3. Data Report Layouts • Occupational Summary • National Postings • Top Postings By Region • Trends by Industry Sector • Employers • Skills and Experience • Job Titles • Certifications

  4. Bossier Parish • The parishes with the largest number of job postings in the last 12 months are Caddo (544 postings), Bossier (188), and Natchitoches (70) • The Public Administration industry posted the most number of job ads for IT workers (127 postings), followed by Health Care and Social Assistance (101), Manufacturing (80), and Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services (76) • The Manufacturing and Public Administration industries experienced the largest growth of IT job ads in the region

  5. LA Delta Tech • Almost all of the IT jobs advertised in this region in the last 12 months were posted in Ouichita parish (447 postings) and Lincoln parish (46 postings) • The Health Care and Social Assistance industry posted the most number of job ads for IT workers (94 postings), followed by Information (83), and Manufacturing (58) • There are more than 200 different job titles for 519 IT job postings in the region. This may suggest that these IT jobs are becoming specialized to the needs of individual employers

  6. South Louisiana • The parishes with the largest number of IT job postings in the last 12 months are Lafayette (811 postings), Iberia (113), Saint Mary (42) and Saint Landry (41) • Hospital Corporation of America (60), Lafayette General Medical Center (36), and Schlumberger (25) posted the largest numbers of job ads in the region

  7. Delgado • Nine different major categories of industries posted over 100 job postings for IT workers. This is an unusually broad distribution of IT job ads across industries within the LA/MS TAA consortium region, and it is worthwhile to explore the types of IT jobs available in some of the less “traditional” IT industries.

  8. Pearl River • The counties with the largest number of IT job postings in the last 12 months are Forrest (271 postings), and Hancock (233) • Computer Sciences Corporation (64), Deloitte Development, LLC (37), and General Dynamics (31) posted the largest numbers of job ads in the region. • 62% of job postings requested less than four years of experience

  9. Meridian • There were 159 IT related job ads posted online in Lauderale County over the last 12 months. • Four of the top five skills clusters in demand were in the realm of “common skills.” 60 IT job postings requested “Communication and Coordination” skills, 36 postings requested “Business Environment Skills,” 33 requested “Problem Solving” skills, and 30 requested “Customer Service: Basic Assistance.” This data suggests that it is important for you to emphasize basic and common skills in your training programs.

  10. Low Postings? • Remember, real-time LMI is limited to job postings; some employers and industries do not advertise jobs online • Lend more weight to the occupational projections in the supply and demand analysis • Even more critical to establish relationships with employers • Use the consortium • Emphasize basic skills

  11. Next Steps • Supply and demand analysis • Skills by industry clusters
