NPDES Electronic Reporting Rule Bureau of Water, Update on the E-Reporting Rule • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Electronic Reporting Rule • On July 30, 2013, EPA proposed the Clean Water Act National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Electronic Reporting Rule; which requires electronic reporting of NPDES information rather than the current paper-based reports from permitted facilities that discharge to waters of the United States. • The rule was signed on September 24, 2015 and published in October 2015.
NPDES Electronic Reporting Rule Bureau of Water, Update on the E-Reporting Rule • What else is required? • Requires states and other regulatory authorities to share NPDES data electronically with EPA including permit, compliance, monitoring (e.g., inspection), violation determination and enforcement action. • Data is then showcased on EPA’s public website Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO)
