  2. GVB and UCAFEE • Global Village of Beijing (GVB) is a leading Chinese environmental NGO that aim to promote public environmental movement and civil society development in China. Following GVB’ s advice, the Beijing Olympic Committeetakes Green Community Developments as one of its major Olympic plans and popularize GVB model. • US-China Association for Environmental Protection (UCAFEE) is an emerging institution that serves as linkage between China and the west, fundraising and providing consultative training service for Chinese environmental education projects, with GVB as a base.

Conflicting Values • There exists conflicting values on how to alleviate poverty in these remote areas with resourceful ethnic cultural heritages and biodiversity • Government show less attention of culture heritage protection, thinking minority groups should just give up their backward living style and be integrated in modern world. • Environmentalists are pushing eco-tourism as a way to lift living standards in these rural areas, target environment, culture protection and employment with one shoot.
