NIMROD on NSTX Bick Hooper Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory presented by Carl Sovinec Plasma Science and Innovation Center Meeting, July 24-25, 2012 Seattle, Washington
Introduction • This work is in support of transient-CHI development on NSTX. • Simulation results may impact engineering decisions during the upgrade. • We exchange frequent e-mail and hold some teleconferences with Roger Raman. • Fatima Ebrahimi of UNH is starting a complementary study of CHI in NSTX. • Results shown here represent work in progress on reproducing the 2D flux closure observed in the experiment.
Discussion • We have confidence that we will be able to model large-scale flux closure. • Results from simplified HIT-II modeling are below. • A planned simulation campaign for NSTX is intended to sort-out the influences of T-dependent transport, the vertical-flux transient, and the current waveform.
