The IRAC – How it works… • IRAC is an ADVISORY committee • Main IRAC meets twice a month – 2nd & 4th Tuesdays • Since 1922 • IRAC Subcommittees – specialized topics • Ad Hoc groups – specialized topics • A collegial body…almost all work by consensus…voting is rare (except in FAS) • Experienced professionals • Many members have other duties such as communications engineering, etc.

Authorization… • Field office or local DC office selects frequency (or frequency band)… • Sends request to its IRAC/FAS member • IRAC/FAS member submits to NTIA electronically • App is processed & reviewed for errors, etc. • App sent electronically to all IRAC/FAS members • FAS votes electronically • …if no problems… NTIA approves in 15 working days • Entry into Gov. Master File (GMF)
