Find the pronoun and identify it as reflexive or intensive. If the pronoun is reflexive, identify its function. If the pronoun is intensive, write the word it intensifies. • Sometimes, a young person may humble herself and give to others. • At age sixteen, Betsy Dowdy gave herself a chance to help the American cause during the Revolutionary War. • The British soldiers themselves had been attacking in nearby areas and causing great destruction, and they were headed toward Betsy’s home. • Ignoring the danger, Betsy steeled herself and successfully rode fifty miles to warn a nearby American general. • Because of the warning, the general’s men themselves defeated the British. Identify the indefinite pronoun and label it singular or plural. • A few of the greatest tragedies in history occurred because people who did not listen to warnings. • One of the deadliest tragedies was the sinking of the Titanic. • Everyone involved with the building of the ship felt that it was extremely safe and virtually unsinkable. • When the ship hit an iceberg and began to sink, some of the passengers refused to believe the danger even after they were told. • Because many of the warnings went unheeded, over fifteen hundred people lost their lives.
