Every quote needs a style…. • Style A: Use for complete sentence quotes: Author’s last name + states, + full sentence quote (23). suggests, explains, writes, argues, maintains, implies,
For example….. Oleskar explains, “more than half of all serious crimes today are committed by juveniles” (23).
Used for quoting words or phrases: imbedded in your words (a mixture of your words and author’s in one sentence) Style B
For example: It is a disturbing fact that youth are responsible for “more than half of all serious crimes today” (Oleskar 23).
Style C Used for introducing quote with analysis of the quote. (Your own words of what the quote means before the quote)
For Example • The crime rate of individuals under 18 years old is becoming all too common: “more than half of all serious crimes today are committed by juveniles” (Olsekar 23).
“Youths in the white, black and Hispanic neighborhoods all began their crime careers as street brawlers, dangerous only to each other” (Oleskar 23).
Style B: All juvenile criminals, regardless of race, started off as “street brawlers” in their own neighborhoods before committing more serious crimes that affect other social groups (Oleskar 23). Oleskar argues, “Youths in the white, black and Hispanic neighborhoods all began their crime careers as street brawlers, dangerous only to each other” (23).
