Why do we use the metric system? It is a standard international measurement and is used because it is easier to convert between units. It’s international! It is based on 10.
Mass & Weight Mass measures the amount of matter in an object. Weight measures the force of gravity on an object. Weight changes depending on location but mass does not.
Physics units Length = m (meter) Mass = kg (kilogram) Time = s (second) Weight = N (Newton)
Fundamental units are meter, kilogram, and second. Derived units (such as meter per second or m/s) are based on fundamental units.
MKS MKS is a system of units based on measuring length in meter, mass in kilograms, and time in seconds. MKS is generally used in beginning physics and engineering. (it stands for meters, kilograms, seconds!)
