Thesis title: Developing a Model for Learning Organization for the Nursing Department at Waengyai Hospital, Waengyai District, Khonkaen Province Researcher: MissWutiporn Promrach; Degree: Master Science (Nursing Administration); Thesis advisors: (1) Dr. Boontip Siritarungsri, Associate Professor; (2) Dr. Boonsri Prommapun, Associate Professor; (3) Dr. Kowin Wiwattanapongpun, Associate Professor; Academic year: 2007 ABSTRACT The purposes of this research were: (1) to analyze the need for a learning organization for the Nursing Department at Waengyai Hospital in Khonkaen Province, (2) to develop a model for learning organization for the Nursing Department, and(3) to evaluate the new learning organization model. The subjects of this research were twenty professional nurses. Three research instruments developed by the researcher were used. They were: (1) a situation analysis form for being a learning organization, (2) guidelines for developing the model, and (3) an evaluation form of the new learning organization model. The content validity was verified by four experts. The Cronbarch alpha reliability coefficient of the learning organization situation questionnaires was 0.95. Research data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and content analysis. The research findings were as follows. (1) Professional nurses rated the need for the learning organization for the Nursing Department at Waengyai Hospital at the high level. (2) The new model for a learning organization was composed of nine components as follows: (a) Leadership, (b) Shared vision,(c) Organization atmosphere, (d) Team learning,(e) Organization management, (f) Application technology,(g) System thinking, (h) Personal mastery, and (i) Mental models.Finally, (3) the new learning organization model co-responded to the context of the Nursing Department. Above all, the new model led to the real implementation of learning organization at Waengyai Hospital. Thesis title: The Development of a Nursing Record Model for the Delivery Room at Fort Suranari Hospital in NakhonRatchasima Province Qualitative Research
Purpose Qualitative Research The objective of this participatory action research was to develop a nursing record model for the delivery room at Fort Suranari Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
Method Qualitative Research The sample of this study consisted of ten professional nurses who worked at the delivery room in Fort Suranari Hospital. The research was divided into three phases. First, situational analysis was done by reviewing the literature, auditing thirty medical records of the delivery room for accuracy and completeness of nursing records, and in-depth interviewing of six professional nurses. Second, the preliminary model was developed based on two focus group discussions of professional nurses. Third, the model was implemented and modified for three months. The accuracy and completeness of nursing records was evaluated every month for two months. Furthermore, the professional nurses rated their satisfaction with these records before and after model implementation. The instruments of this research were the evaluation form of the accuracy and completeness of the nursing record developed by the nursing division of Fort Suranari Hospital and satisfaction questionnaires developed by the researcher. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.
Qualitative Research Findings/Results Findings were summarized as follows. Phase I: there were too many nursing record forms. The same nursing intervention was recorded in several different forms. No one was explicitly assigned as a recorder in each step. The topics of nursing diagnosis and of a nursing care plan form were inadequate. The accuracy and completeness of these nursing records were 72.24% which was lower than the standard of nursing division (80%). Phase II: thenursing record model was developed. In this, only four nursing record forms were selected: 1) an assessment form, 2) a nursing diagnosis and nursing care plan, 3) a parthograph, and 4) a summary of delivery record. Next, the topics in nursing diagnosis and in a nursing care plan form were reorganized. Recorders were assigned for each stage. Phase III, the modified model was implemented and improved. The accuracy and completeness of nursing records were increased from 91.35% to 93.43% respectively during each month for two months. The professional nurses rated their satisfaction with the new record model (74.20%) implementing higher than before (65.11%).
