Plot Diagram. Plot. A sequence of events in which each event results from a previous one and cause the next. The plot centers on a conflict (a struggle between two opposing forces). The plot is usually made up of five parts. climax. Plot Diagram. falling action. rising action.

  2. Plot • A sequence of events in which each event results from a previous one and cause the next. • The plot centers on a conflict (a struggle between two opposing forces). • The plot is usually made up of five parts.

  4. Exposition • Setting • Gives background information • Tells where and when the story takes place • Usually introduces the characters • The conflict or struggle begins here (initiating event)

  5. Rising Action • reveals the problem(s) or conflict(s) in the story

  6. Climax • turning point in the story • it is the most intense or suspenseful part • the greatest tension in the story

  7. Falling Action • events following the climax • explains the result of the climax

  8. Resolution • the problem or conflict is resolved and the story ends • almost always the last paragraph of a novel or the last sentence of a short story
