  1. CM-SAF TOA radiation status report S. Dewitte Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  2. Overview • Changes to processing system • Status input products: GERB/SEVIRI • Status input products: CERES CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  3. Changes visible to users • Change from lat-lon to sinusoidal grid. • Changes spatial averaging for GERB, now high resolution SHI is used as input instead of low resolution BARG. • New hdf output format. CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  4. Demonstration merging • Daily mean TRS images for 2/3/2004. CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  5. CERES GERB CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  6. CERESwith mask GERBwith mask CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  7. Merged User product CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  8. Internal changes • New directory structure • Better separation source code/data • Organised per month and per software version • Input, output, intermediate data and source code are archived for traceability and possibility for reprocessing • More extensive logging • ‘Log summary tool’ may be needed. CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  9. Status input products: GERB/SEVIRI • Currently used as input in order of priority: • GERB (not released) • GERB-like from SEVIRI data • Product file contains the list of input files that were actually used. • No more correction of the GERB/SEVIRI data in the CM-SAF software, will be done in near-real time GERB Processing. CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  10. GERB status • Planned release: December 2004. • Planned reprocessing: first half 2005. • Known data quality problems: • Spectral response (affects TRS) • Correction of TET for cold clouds. • Not yet investigated: TRS near sun glint region. • Instrument stopped measuring end of July 2004, should restart this week. CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  11. Status input products: CERES • Currently used: ES9, Terra, FM1, Edition 1 • Available up to June 2004 • Waiting for July 2004 for next month ‘dress rehearsal’ • Better: ES9, Terra/FM1 + Aqua/FM3, Edition 2 • Available up to Dec 2003 • More advanced: SRBAVG • Better angular models, better spatial resolution • Currently only available for TRMM up to 2000 CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004

  12. Conclusions • Ready for dress rehearsal next month. • GERB data release planned for December 2004. • Possibility for reprocessing. CM-SAF Board Meeting , Zurich, 13-15/9/2004
