  1. DAC3XJ8X EVM Test Procedure– New: January 7, 2014 Revised: November 6, 2014 – Added DAC39J82, DAC39J84

  2. Required Hardware • DAC3XJ8X EVM • TSW14J56 • USB Cables (2) • 5-V Power Supplies (2) • Altera JTAG Programming Pod (USB Blaster) • Signal generator (optional) • Spectrum Analyzer (capable of ACLR testing)

Required Software • HSDCPro v2.5 (or newer)http://www.ti.com/tool/dataconverterpro-sw • DAC3XJ8X GUI v1.1 (or newer)http://www.ti.com/tool/dac38j84evm • FT_Prog (v2.8 or newer) – there are problems with v2.4http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities.htm#FT_Prog • Altera Quartus II Programmerhttp://dl.altera.com/13.0/?edition=subscription&platform=windows&download_manager=direct

  4. Check EVM Default Jumper Locations

  5. 1. Connect Boards 5-V Power Supply Programming Pod (J15 – Prog CPLD) USB 10 MHz Not Required Spectrum Analyzer 5-V Power Supply Switch to “On” USB

  6. 2. Program USB Chip 1. Scan for devices 2. Right click and choose: Apply Template -> From File 5. Cycle Ports 3. Load template for the correct DAC 4. Program device

  7. 3. Program CPLD 2. Check “Program/Configure” and “Verify” 1. Add File: “DAC38J84_CPLD_Firmware.pof” 5. Make sure “Successful” 3. Select USB Blaster 4. Start

Open HSDCPro (See next slide for screenshot) • Select the correct TSW14J56 and click “Okay” • Select DAC tab • Choose DAC (see table) from “Select DAC” drop down menu • Download firmware when popup comes up • Enter “737.28M” for Data Rate and choose “2’s complement” • Click “Load File and Transfer into TSW1400” and select “WCDMA_TM1_complexIF30MHz_Fdata737.28MHz_1000.tsw” • Do not click “Send” yet

  13. 6. Click “Send” in HSDCPro

  14. 7. Reset DAC JESD Core

  15. 8. Trigger SYSREF

  16. 9. Measure ACPR for ALL FOUR channels

  17. Test Limits • Contact TI for support if any adjacent channel is below 77 dBc or any alternate channel is below 80 dBc • Trouble shooting: • For Agilent PSA: • Enable “Noise Correction” by going to “Meas Setup” then select the “More” option then enable noise correction • Use the spectrum analyzer’s “Optimize Ref Level” feature in the “Meas Setup” menu • For Rhode and Schwarz FSQ: • Enable “Noise Correction” in “MEAS” menu then select “CHAN PWR ACPR” and enable noise correction • Use “ADJUST REF LVL” in the same menu
