Key Stage 2 Welcome Meeting September 2013 The purpose of the meeting was to: - Introduce you to the Key Stage 2 teaching teams - Go through some of the changes from KS1 to KS2 - Discuss aspects of the curriculum and home learning - Discuss how you can help your child

A few reminders…. • Top playground – Staff on duty at 8.45, whistle at 8.55. • If you need to get a message to a member of staff please email it to the office. • Playtimes – Only a morning play in KS2 • Healthy snacks and water in bottles need to be provided • Swimming – Spring Term Y5+6, Summer Term Y3+4. We will be using the pool at The Excel Centre in Coventry. • Classroom equipment – children are encouraged to have their own pencil case, pencils, ruler etc • P.E kits need to be in school at all times.
Curriculum and Home learning • We have designed our own flexible and creative curriculum. We believe it is more exciting and driven by the children. • We send out termly planners to parents. • Home Learning - All children will get a weekly Maths task to consolidate learning that has taken place in the classroom. They will also get some English home learning weekly. • Thematic home learning activities will be given termly – variety of tasks that could include reading, research, writing, drawing, making etc • Children will not be learning lists of spellings weekly. • New National Curriculum starts from September 2014 – we will keep you informed.
How you can help your child • Listen to your child read/read to your child • Support with home learning where appropriate • Encourage independence • Practice times tables/telling the time/using money in every day life situations
Future events • Assemblies – Key Stage and Merit assemblies to show achievements in and out of school • Sharing assemblies – 1 per term now on Friday mornings. Dates will go out with plenty of notice. • Reading workshop for parents • Residential information evenings 18th September • KS2 Performance will be in the Autumn Term and will involve all children • Christmas carol concert • Parents evenings – dates to be confirmed
