What We Are WBG’s twin goals: The goals are to reduce extreme poverty in the world to less than 3 percent by 2030, and to foster income growth of the bottom 40 percent of the population in each country. • A unique global partnership • 189 member countries • Staff from more than 170 countries • Offices in over 130 locations • 5 institutions working for sustainable solutions that reduce poverty and build shared prosperity in developing countries.

Bhutan and World Bank Country Management Unit • Bhutan became the member of the World Bank in 1981. • World Bank Bhutan country office was established in 2011.
Country Partnership Framework • Covering between Jul 2014 and Jun 2019. • Closely aligned with the Government’s 11th FYP and supports Bhutan’s aspirations to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth. • All WBG’s programs and projects are aligned with the CPS. • Structured around 3 areas: • Improving fiscal and spending efficiency, • Increasing private sector growth and competitiveness, and • Supporting green development.
World Bank’s Support in Bhutan • IDA • 4 projects under implementation • Remote Rural Communities Development Project • Bhutan Urban Development Project • Development Policy Credit 1: Strengthening fiscal management and private sector development opportunities development policy credit • Trust Fund and Grants • More than 10 active trust-funded activities • Analytical Works and Technical Assistance • 8 completed in this fiscal year (Bhutan development update, Implementation of Financial Sector Development Action Plan, Hydropower Sustainability Support, Alternative Procurement Arrangements Assessment of Thimphu Thromde Bhutan, Improving Bhutan Investment Climate, Property Registration)
