  4. Back Creation Myth • Izanagi makes Onokoro • They meet & Izanami speaks first • Izanami’s son is weak • Izanami should not have spoken first • Go back & Izanagi speaks first • Children are perfect

  5. Back The Underworld • Izanagi goes to underworld for Izanami • Izanami ate food • Izanami says he can’t look • Izanagi looks and sees monsters on her • Izanagi runs away

  6. Back The Sun Behind the Rock • Susanowo kills Amaterasu’s maiden • Amaterasu hides in a cave • World becomes dark • Comes out when Uzume, the goddess of laughter, dances

  7. Back Yamata No Orochi • Susanowo hears eight-headed snake, Orochi, wants to eat Kusinada • Makes eight doors each with a barrel of sake • Monster falls asleep and Susanowo cuts off their heads • Marries Kusinada and gets the sword, Kusanagi

  8. Back The Flower Princess and the Rock Princess • Ohyamatsumi hears Ninigi loves Konohana, his daughter • Sends Iwanaga, his other daughter, with Konohana • Ninigi sends Iwanaga back • Konohana = prosperity Iwanaga = immortality • Ninigi loses chance to live forever

  9. Back The Palace Under the Sea • Hoori loses brother’s fishhook & looks for it in sea • Toyotama, sea dragon's daughter, loves Hoori • Toyotama’s father finds fishhook • Hoori goes back to return fishhook • Hoori sees true form when Toyotama is giving birth

  10. Back Lord of the Land • Ohkuninushi = lord of land, brothers hate him • Brothers tell him they will chase boar & he can catch it • Catches burning rock & dies • Mother tries to revive him • Brothers put him in tree trunk • Ohkuninushi revives
