UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA • 9 Campuses • Applications are available now online at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply • Application deadline is November 30 • Application fee is $70.00 per campus • SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT Assessment plus Writing are required • The SAT Subject Tests are not required;however, certain programs recommend them

UC (Cont.) • December is the last SAT/ACT test date for regular admission • When sending SAT scores, send to one UC campus and it will be uploaded for all campuses to view • Grade point average is based on 10/11 grades, A-G courses only • Cost is $13,200 a year for commuters and up to $32,400 to live on campus

  4. CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITIES • 23 campuses • Applications become available online beginning October 1 @ www.csumentor.edu • Application deadline is November 30. • Application fee is $55.00 per campus • SAT or ACT required

CSU (Cont.) • December is the last SAT/ACT test date for regular admission(for most colleges) • When sending SAT scores, send directly to #3594 (CSU Mentor) • Grade point average is calculated from grades 10-12 (10/11 for competitive schools) in A-G courses only • Cost is $5,472 (tuition only) for commuters and up to $22,000 to live on campus

  6. PRIVATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES • Great variation in entrance requirements • Check admissions requirements carefully for grade and course eligibility • Cost is up to $54,000 a year for tuition • The Common Application is the preferred method of application at www.commonapp.org

  7. COMMUNITY COLLEGE • Entrance requirements: 18 years of age or high school diploma • Apply online beginning January 2015 • Cost is $46.00 per unit • Benefits include: less costly, time to explore courses for future major, and students may live at home

  8. COMMUNITY COLLEGE (Cont.) • Community Colleges prefer their own placement tests, some campuses will accept the results of the SAT/ACT. • Certificate Program vs. four-year college transfer program • Sign-up for the Fullerton College Counseling 50 class offered in the spring

FINANCIAL AID • FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid • Application available beginning January 1, 2015 @ www.fafsa.ed.gov • Student and Parent need to apply for a Federal Student Aid Pin code to use as an electronic signature on the FAFSA @ www.pin.ed.gov(you may apply before January 1) • CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE (required by some schools in addition to the FAFSA) is available online at www.collegeboard.com

  12. TRANSCRIPTSOrder all transcripts on www.parchment.com for a fee of $5.00 During the initial application process Final transcripts at the end of the year

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION Counselor/IB Coordinator Teacher Prepare a resume and give to the teacher Select two teachers in core classes (select a teacher that knows you well) Give the teacher advance notice The teacher request is due four weeks prior to the due date The earlier the better! • Download and complete the SSR/Letter of Recommendation form located at the bottom of the Counseling homepage • Take the completed Letter of Recommendation Request packet and your resume to your counselor in person • The Counselor Request is due no later than Sept. 19 for Nov. 1 deadlines and October 3 for applications due after Nov. 1

  14. NCAA • Division I and II athletes need to register online ASAP at www.eligibilitycenter.org • Please make sure your counselor is aware that you are planning to play college athletics

  15. IMPORTANT DATES • Parent Information Session – September 8, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. • College Night – Monday, September 22, 2014 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the North Gym. UC break-out session at 7:30-8:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall • Financial Aid Workshop – Wednesday, January 22, 2015 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall
