Number of Credits You must have a minimum of 23 credits to receive a diploma from Douglas County School System.
Required Courses • 4 credits of English (one must be American Lit) • 4 credits of Math • 4 credits of Science • 3 credits of Social Studies (4 courses) • ½ credit Health and ½ credit Personal Fitness • 3 Elective credits from CTAE, Fine Arts or Foreign Language
Foreign Language Alert! • Foreign Language is no longer required for graduation. • 2 and 4 year colleges still require 2 credits of the same foreign language for admissions.
HOPE Information PROGRAMS— • Scholarship—3.0 in core classes (take off extra points for Honors/AP) calculated at the end of senior year; covers a percentage of the tuition (see website); no money for books or fees. Also need to have taken two rigorous courses. • Zell Miller—3.7 in core classes (take off extra points for Honors/AP), 1200 SAT verbal & math, covers full tuition, calculated at end of senior year; no money for books or fees. • Grant—available for students seeking certificate or diploma at a Technical College; covers percentage of tuition. Honors • Honor Grad • 3.75 cumulative GPA • No F’s • Maximum credits • 5 academic courses Senior year • 2 credits of Foreign Language • Board Scholar • 3.5 cumulative GPA • No F’s • Maximum credits • 1 extra academic course + 2 Foreign Language
Seals • Fine Arts • 4 credits (Band, Visual Arts, Chorus or Drama) • 2 credits must be from same discipline • Foreign Language - 4 credits of the same foreign language • Academic Seal • 3 Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment credits • 3 Certificate completions from technical school dual enrollment program
GHSWT You must pass the Writing Georgia High School Graduation test (must score at least 200) --to receive DIPLOMA --to walk in May
