School to School Visits A pilot programme run on behalf of the DfE
What is it? • A school to school learning visit programme • Any state funded primary or secondary school in England can arrange a 3-5 hour visit to a host school • 2-3 ‘host’ schools have been identified under 6 headings • These schools are located nationwide (1 in London) • Visitors play an active role in contributing to the improvement of the school
What are the benefits? • Share leading practice • Meet peers from the host school • Opportunity to discuss any of the ‘topic’ areas • Provide host school with constructive feedback to contribute for continuous improvement of school • Peer to peer knowledge exchange • Networking opportunity
Topic areas • Narrowing the gap for disadvantaged pupils • Maximising pupil progress through the effective use of assessment data • Teachers and teaching assistants as writers – (improving writing at key stage 2 based on Pie Corbett research) • Leading practice in Secondary Modern schools • Effective transition from Early Years to school • Sustainable schools
How to become a host school? • You must have a ‘story to tell’ • Be prepared to share ‘warts and all’ • May be judged outstanding by Ofsted, or have received a teaching award or implementing inspirational practices • A member of the ‘School to School Visits’ team will undertake a visit to your school to assess your suitability
What support can I get from School to School team? • All host school will have a dedicated page on the ‘School to School’ website • Ensure that host schools are not ‘over visited’
Does it cost? • Each school is responsible for its own expenses
