  1. Welcome to Kindergarten 2017-18 Rosecrest Elementary Mrs. Mills

  2. About Mrs. Mills…

  3. Mrs. Mills My contact info • jlmills@graniteschools.org • millsclass.com • 385-646-5002-office • 385-646-1435-desk • Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

  4. School Supplies • There is only one thing your child needs, a good backpack that is regular size…large enough to fit in a standard size folder. • I will let you know when other donations of supplies are needed.

  5. First day of school: • Line up outside the north double doors. I will mark the spot on the first day. • I will meet the children outside the door and lead them in. • You may come in and snap a quick picture, a hug, a kiss, and quick goodbye. • The faster you leave the better…I’ll take care of the rest.

  6. Label Everything • Coats • Sweaters • Backpacks • Hats • Mittens • Umbrellas • Everything!

  7. Shoes • Have your child wear reasonable shoes to school. • No flip flops please. • Sandals are OK if they are secured on with good, sturdy straps. • Have your child wear snow boots on snowy daysor when snow is on the ground. If it is not actively snowing, the kids will go to recess. • We have P.E. every Tuesday, so good athletic shoes are a must.

  8. Sick Kids • Please call the office to report your child’s absence. • All absences should be excused by a parent.

  9. Birthday Celebrations • When it is your child’s birthday, I will send home a poster for your child to fill out and bring back to school. • You may send a snack or treat that day to celebrate. • Please don’t bring messy things (cupcakes-frosting gets imbedded into the carpet). • It is school policy that no invitations be distributed at school. Unless you are inviting the entire class, you will need to deliver them privately.

  10. Mystery Bag • I’ll send home the mystery bag with a different child each day. • Send the bag back the next day with an item and three clues that your child determines.

  11. Rosecrest Folders • Have your child keep his/her RosecrestFolder in his/her backpack. • When your child cleans out his/her cubby at the end of the day, he/she will put the papers into the folder. • Please check your child’s backpack and Rosecrest Folder daily. • I will also send emails and post to my class website for important events.

  12. Monthly Benchmarks

  13. Only three hours… • The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children. (Commission on Reading by the National Council of Teachers of English) • Read…read…read…to your kids. • Homework?
