HUMAN CONNECTIONS FOREVER BLOGS Is Social Media Killing Your Happiness in Relationships? 1/2/2020 0 Comments What keeps you glued to your digital screens making you scroll through your web feed for hours? What affects you the most on social media? Your friends partying around the world? Or #couplegoals pictures of your classmates having the most romantic time of their life? Whether we accept it or not, social media is playing a very influential role in our life. We all spend an average of 3 hours everyday scrolling through our accounts looking at Facebook updates or Instagram stories. In this digital world, we see people around us having fun, travelling and having the best kind of food. When we get so engrossed in knowing what our friends are doing, we end up pressurizing ourselves subconsciously to be a part of this 'exhibition of happiness.' And even before we realise it, we have given in to the influence of social media, allowing it to take a toll on us and our relationships. POWERED BY
These are some of the ways how Social Media may be slowly killing your happiness. FOMO HUMAN CONNECTIONS FOREVER Social media keeps us connected with our friends all over the world. But it is also the reason for our declining happiness. Often a pang of jealousy is common when we see the picture-perfect lives of our friends having a gala time. Picturesque destinations and celebration of romantic moments at exotic dinners can cause a fear of missing out. You begin to feel that everyone around you is having the best time of their life while you are sulking in your office cubicles. We often forget that the pictures that we see can be deceiving. The pictures that people share are snippets of their life and should not be considered as something that they do every time. We compare our behind the camera lives with our friend's on-camera moments often forgetting that everyone has difficulties. Everyone is struggling with their problems just like us. Unreasonable Expectations We generally see pictures of couples having destination weddings or planning surprises for their loved ones. We begin expecting the same from our partners. Anything that is not worth sharing on social media feels like settling. These exorbitant expectations make it difficult for us to find happiness in our relationships. We keep looking for something extra forgetting to celebrate the little moments of joy. Digital Dating Dating apps like Tinder also fall into the category of social media. These applications are changing our perception of a relationship. Firstly, they provide numerous options, that can be judged only by their online presence. We have started describing our partners by their looks or their style. Our digital conversations have replaced face to face interactions that help us understand the true psyche of a person. Love in these half baked relationships is prone to fizzle out as soon as they get to know each other's true self. Secondly, online dating is killing the charm of falling in love without digital screens. Efforts to make each other happy are replaced by efforts to show the world how happy they are in love. Also, there is a major risk of ending relationships considering that there are many other life partner options available on various dating applications. Digital Detention It is now difficult to think of an evening without our mobile phones. The real problem arises when we do not avoid our mobile phones on dates. When we should be communicating with our partner, we instead keep gazing at our phone screens most of the time. POWERED BY Also when we are outside where ideally we should be enjoying the environment around us, we end up
spending most of our time in capturing the moments rather than living them. In the process, we might have some pictures to post on social media accounts but we have lost our chance to make a good memory. Relationships in the modern world are sensitive and brittle. They need constant efforts from both the people involved to maintain happiness. This requires a correct balance between social media and our relationships. Make efforts to spend some quality time with your loved ones, excluding social media. HUMAN CONNECTIONS FOREVER Tweet 0 Comments Leave a Reply.
