  2. How Can I Use This Data ? • Curriculum Alignment-tells what I need to teach • Curriculum Mapping-when I am going to teach it • Curriculum Benchmarking-what have my students learned • Differentiation-what teaching method would be best for the student • Accountability- do I have the same high expectations for all my students

  3. Where Can I Get My Data? • Formal Assessments • Star Reading • Star Math • Prescriptive Instruction • Orchard • ClassScape

  4. Where Can I Get My Data? • Informal Assessments • Teacher observation • Student work samples • Checklist • Journals

  5. Differentiated Instruction • Differentiated instruction is an approach to teaching essential content in ways that address the varied learning needs of students with the goal of maximizing the possibilities of each learner. 6. Differentiated Instruction • Differentiated Instruction is based on the following beliefs: • Students differ in their learning profiles・ • Classrooms in which students are active learners, decision makers and problem solvers are more natural and effective than those in which students are served a "one-size-fits-all" curriculum and treated as passive recipients of informationハ・” • Covering information" takes a backseat to making meaning out of important ideas”. (n.d.). What is Differentiated Instruction. from http://www.scusd.edu/gate_ext_learning/differentiated.htm

  7. Programs That Can Be Once You Have the Data • Accelerated Math • Accelerated Reading • Scholastic Reading Counts • Mathfacts in a Flash • Orchard • Prescriptive Instruction • Key Skills

  8. What is Tiered Instruction? • Tiered instruction is a means of teaching one concept and meeting the different learning needs in a group. Regina Public Schools and Saskatchewan Learning. (2003). from http://www.saskschools.ca/curr_content/bestpractice/tiered/index.html

  11. What are “Anchored Projects” • An anchoring activity is exactly what it sounds like ミ a meaningful activity tied to the curriculum that is meant to be done by students independently at any time, such as when they have completed present assignments, at the beginning of each class as students organize themselves and prepare for work, or in order to allow the teacher to work with individual students or small groups of students. In other words, students are anchored to an activity. Students must be well versed in the ground rules of working independently. (n.d.). Learning Contracts.
