What is Cyberbullying? • What do you think?
Flaming • Online fights, usually through emails, instant messaging (IM), or chatrooms where angry, rude, or offensive messages are exchanged.
Denigration • Posting mean comments online through emails, IM, chatrooms, “bashboards,” social networking sites, or websites set up specifically to make fun of someone.
Exclusion • Intentionally leaving someone out of an online group or community, such as IM buddy lists or friends lists on social networking pages.
Outing • Sharing secrets about someone online, including private information, pictures, and videos.
Trickery • Tricking someone into revealing personal information and then sharing it with others online.
Impersonation • Pretending to be someone else when sending or posting mean or false messages online that makes someone look bad, gets someone into trouble, or puts someone in danger.
Harassment • Repeatedly sending malicious messages to someone online.
Cyberstalking • Continuous harassment and denigration, including threats of physical harm.
What to do if bullied • Don’t respond to a bully • Save messages • Talk to parents • Report abuse to site administrator
Real-life Cyberbullying Cases • Divide into groups • Read the case to the group • Answer the discussion questions • Each person in group must report on at least one question • Time allowed 7-10 minutes
