    2. Senator Neal Kedzie first introduced legislation on bullying by students in 2006. Joint Legislative Council established the Special Committee on School Safety in 2008 which was directed to study ways in which school safety can be improved.     3. DPI shall develop a model school policy on bullying by students that school boards may adopt. Model Policy Requirement

A definition of bullying A prohibition on bullying A reporting procedure A prohibition against pupil retaliation A procedure for investigating reports of bullying District officials must report incidents of bullying and identify the person to whom the reports are to be made Model Policy Must Include:

    5. A list of disciplinary alternatives Identify school-related events at which the policy applies Identify the property owned, leased or used on which the policy applies Identify the vehicles used on which the policy applies Policy Must Include, cont.:

    7. By August 15, 2010, each school board is to adopt a policy prohibiting bullying by pupils. Deadline

    8. Annually, the policy is to be distributed to all students enrolled in the district and to their parents or guardians. A copy is to be distributed to any person who requests it. Distribution Requirements

    9. Wednesday of the fourth week in September is designated as bullying awareness day for purposes of school recognition. Bullying Awareness Day
