RTCA SC-217/EUROCAE WG-44Connectivity subgroup status • Goals of AMDB taxi network: • Fully connected network throughout taxiway and runway areas made up of node and edge features • Extendable to stand/apron areas • High enough fidelity to support situational awareness intended functions • Support “smooth curve” depiction of taxi route • Incorporate guidance line data when possible • Derive network automatically for large majority of situations (minimize need for manual intervention/steps) • Support creation of a graphical taxi path, including turn/hold/etc. instructions and geographical positions • Appropriate for use in ground-based and/or on-board applications • D-TAXI like applications with datalinked taxi route as well as aircraft-based apps • Generic enough solution so that ground and aircraft don’t need to have a common database • Support applications like surface traffic (trajectory intent) in addition to taxi routing • Provide high-level requirements and guidance/examples in AMDB standards, but not specific algorithms
RTCA SC-217/EUROCAE WG-44Connectivity subgroup status • Major decisions/progress made thus far: • Use polygon geometries to achieve connectivity/compute the node positions • Removes need to overcome issues with gaps/virtual lines to achieve connectivity • Place nodes on shared sides of polygons (higher level of fidelity than using centroids of polygons) • Treat holding positions like shared sides • Use TaxiwayGuidanceLine, runway PaintedCenterline, and RunwayExitLine features when available • Initial AMDB feature definitions and capture rules defined • Initial prototyping of node and edge computation
RTCA SC-217/EUROCAE WG-44Connectivity subgroup status • Next Steps: • Continue development of proof-of-concept prototypes to show that deriving taxi network from existing data with a minimum of manual intervention is feasible • Node and edge computation currently in work • Will start working on routing algorithm soon • Proof-of-concept prototypes will help validate requirements and identify special cases that need further attention • Work with SC-214/WG-78 on aligning vision of graphical route requirements and datalink message content • Formation of “Tiger Team” • Questions?
