Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Please review your student handbook for the expectations held for ALL Woodridge High School students.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Practices will be held at Woodridge High School from 2:45 until 5:30. This time may change slightly based upon the training phase and practice objectives.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • All practices are mandatory. Meetings with teachers and/or injuries will typically be excused. ALWAYS communicate with a coach BEFORE the absence.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Excused absences from school will result in an excused practice. However, detention is not a valid reason to miss practice. Serve your time and get to practice as soon as possible.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Athletes are to take care of themselves physically and mentally. That is, they are to eat well-balanced meals and get plenty of rest. They should do nothing that jeopardizes the success of their team.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Student athletes are expected to carry themselves in a manner that reflects well upon their team and their school. Failure to do this will result in discipline and/or suspensions as deemed necessary by the coaching staff.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Athletes are expected to strive toward mastery of their event. They will demonstrate a strong work ethic and desire to improve. They will take pride in their team and individual performance.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Any conflict or concern regarding participation in track and field should be first taken up with their event coach, then their head coach, and if necessary the athletic director. Parents are welcome to schedule meetings with the coaching staff at any time.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • Disrespectful behavior to a coach, an official, or another competitor is grounds for removal from the program. Sportsmanship is expected.
Bulldog Track & FieldTeam Rules • We are a TEAM, not merely a collection of individuals. Student athletes are expected to stay through the final event of all dual meets.
It Begins with YOU! • Take care of your FAMILY responsibilities • Engage in POSITIVE activities • Achieve YOUR individual goals • Model an ATHLETIC lifestyle
Required Paperwork • Athletic Physical on file with Woodridge High School • Insurance Waiver Form • Emergency Medical Form • Team Rules/Regulations
Events to be Contested… • Shot Put • Discus • Pole Vault • High Jump • Long Jump • 4 X 800 Meter Relay • 100/110 Meter Hurdles • 100 Meter Dash • 4 X 200 Meter Relay • 1600 Meter Run • 4 X 100 Meter Relay • 400 Meter Run • 300 Meter Hurdles • 800 Meter Run • 200 Meter Dash • 3200 Meter Run • 4 X 400 Meter Relay Maximum of four (4) events per meet!
Varsity Letter Requirements • Earn 20 points throughout the season. Beyond team points in the regular season, there are other ways to garner varsity points. Performance standards will also be considered when awarding varsity letters. • Earn one (1) team point per contest. Remember, a double dual meet actually counts as two (2) meets. • Student/Athlete does not have any unexcused practices for the season – 2 points. • Student/Athlete assists with running the Woodridge Middle School home meets – 1 point/meet (max of 2) • Student/Athlete participates in Booster Club Fund Raiser – 2 points
Varsity Letter • Points Earned • A student-athlete will earn a varsity letter if he/she averages ONE point per VARSITY meet for ALL meets up to and including the District Championships. Dual meets will count as two (2) meets. Twenty (20) Points will be required in 2009. Team points earned at the Portage Trail Conference Meet, the Northeast Ohio District Championships, the Northeast Ohio Regional Championships, and the Ohio State Championships will be doubled for letter status. These modifications will NOT change the ‘official’ points scored totals for the season.
Varsity Letter • Performance Standards • A student-athlete that meets ALL attendance requirements AND meets the performance standard(s) below will earn a varsity letter. That is, if an athlete does not earn enough team points to letter they can meet one of these standards to earn a letter. This will allow strong athletes in our ‘deeper’ events the opportunity to letter. This will also allow an injured athlete the opportunity to letter without participation in all meets. This assumes the athlete in question continues to attend and participate in practice to the best of their ability. Please note…all times are FAT. Hand times will need to be about .24 seconds FASTER.
Goals… • Outcome Goals: • These goals are the goals you hope to achieve…the BIG goals for your season. • For example: • Score at the PTC Meet • Qualify to the Regionals • Throw 36’ in the shot • Performance Goals: • These goals are the goals that you need to complete to hit your Outcome Goals. • For example: • I will get 8 hours of sleep • I will not drink pop for the season • I will cool down after EVERY workout
Hydration • It is often recommended that athletes consume ½ their body weight in ounces of water. • For example: • If I weigh 150 pounds, I should consume at least 75 ounces of water each day. • Please note these are suggestions…high temperatures will require MORE WATER!
