  2. Royal news • The ruler of ancient Egypt were called pharaohs . The word pharaoh means great house. The pharaoh was the most important and powerful person in the country . Many people believed he was a god.

  3. Magnificent monuments • The three pyramids at the town of Giza are more than 4500 years old .they were built for kings ; khufu , chafer and Measure . The biggest , the great pyramid took more than 20 years to build. Around 4000 stonemasons and thousands of other workers needed to complete the job .

  4. Big building blocks • Each block used to build the great pyramind weighed as much as two and a half adult elephant labourers used copper chisels and saws to cut and shape the stones before bragging them on wooden sledges to the base of the pyramid.

  5. War and enemies Foot soldiers carried metal swords and spears with shields made of wood or ox hide .later soldiers were protected by body armour made from strips of leather

  6. The first mummies • The first artificial mummies were made 7000 years ago by the chinchorro people of south America .These people are named after a place in chile. Here scientists discovered traces of the way the chinchorro lived . They were a fishing people who lived in small groups along the coast of the pacific ocean.

  7. Heroes and heroines Ramses // built more temples then any other Egyptian ruler. Two of his greatest achievements are the huge rock-cut temple at Abu Simbel and the Great hall at karnak. He also finised building the mortuary tempel of Seti I at Luxor . After his death a further nine pharaohs were give the name Ramses.
