Theme Mix Tape Project Ms. Rolfe
Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him. I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. When the rooms were warm, he’d call, and slowly I would rise and dress, fearing the chronic angers of that house, Speaking indifferently to him, who had driven out the cold and polished my good shoes as well. What did I know, what did I know of love’s austere and lonely offices?
The Theme: Children should appreciate their parents for the sacrifices they make to support their children.
Quote & Song#1 Hayden- “Those Winter Sundays” “Speaking indifferently to him, who had driven out the cold and polished my good shoes as well. What did I know, what did I know of love’s austere and lonely offices?” Tupac - “Dear Mama” “ finally understand for a woman it ain't easy tryin to raise a man you always was committed. A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how ya did it. There's no way I can pay you back. But the plan is to show you that I understand. You are appreciated.”
Quote & Song #2 Robert Hayden – Those Winter Sundays “Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him.” Ira Lee – “I Love My Mama” “Raised three kids all by her lonesome, .... where’s her awards, or parades… Heather Lynn Mactavish, gave up her life for her kids…”
