Linking With Lync Making connections
The Two Lync Connections • Chat/Call • Informal • Be polite and ask your connection if they are free to chat • Can initiate chat with a whole group • Presentations/Training • For formal presentations or training • Participants can be Presenters or Attendees • Guests are those who do not have Lync installed https://meet.lync.com/coemailmurraystate-coemail/poakley/FTDQN7YZ
Using Lync • Become familiar with the Lync interface • Creating an invitation to a meeting (via Outlook) • Muting microphone • Sharing video (only when necessary) • Sharing • Desktop • Whiteboard • Polls
Before You Present • Do a test connection before your presentation • Have a colleague connect with you and practice your presentation, including: • showing any whiteboards, • presentations, • polls, or • sharing your desktop
As a Presenter • Create your link to your Link presentation in Outlook calendar (can do this with the Outlook Web App 2013 or desktop client) • Send the link to participants • If working with someone else as co-presenters, test your audio and create polls before others connect Join Lync Meetinghttps://meet.lync.com/coemailmurraystate-coemail/poakley/FTDQN7YZ
Using Polls • If you want to create polls before you start, connect early • Create and name them for easy access • Will disappear if you leave the connection • Know how to share them and show results
As a Participant • To access training, click on the link you received • Once you are admitted, be sure your microphone is muted in Lync • Do not start your video unless you are asked to do so by the presenter • Ask questions in the chat window
Using the Microphone • If you are asked by the presenter to speak, unmute your microphone, but remember to mute it when you are finished • Be sure you are in a quiet space if you are going to be talking • Background noises are distracting to other participants
Using Lync in the Classroom • Foreign language classes • Comparing geographical regions of Kentucky • City life vs. country life (i.e., City Mouse & Country Mouse) • Comparing weather through the year • Authoring books together (My Trip to ____________) • Comparing Civil War battles in different areas
Last bit of advice • Be respectful of other participants! • If you need someone to test your connection with, give you help with Lync, or just answer a question, I’m usually available at: poakley@coemail.murraystate.edu
