Day One: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 • Quiet Question: Type Two Prompt---Working with your partner, you are going to use your Japan’s Geography Graphic Organizer Notes and the information below on the effects to analyze your chosen political cartoon and answer the Reflection Questions. • Steps: • Select which Political Cartoon Theme you want to work with: Godzilla Reference, Tsunami Wave Art Print Reference, or Land of Rising Sun Reference. • Then select ONE of the political cartoons under that theme. • Reflection Questions: • What aspects of the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami does your chosen political cartoon address? Explain with historical evidence. • What is the cartoonist’s message with the political cartoon? Explain. How does this tie in with the Political Cartoon Theme? Explain with historical evidence.
Day One: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 • Class: We have examined how China and Japan have struggled with nature. Yet, despite the devastation when nature wins, the East Asian cultures still value and appreciate the forces of nature as depicted below in a famous piece of Japanese art of a tsunami. • In China, there is the traditional philosophical belief of Yin and Yang which focuses on the balance of the universe. The symbol is based upon astronomy and is also the basis for acupuncture and other medical treatments.
Day One: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 • Class: With this lesson, we are going to begin to examine the Philosophies and Religions of East Asia. To help introduce us, we are going to watch two United Streaming Film Clips. • Ancient Chinese Beliefs: Running time of 3.33 minutes • Traditional Religions of China: Running time of 7.16 minutes
Day One: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 • Groups: Formative Assessment---You are going to be researching your assigned religion/philosophy and create a Religious Historical Caricature on. Day One: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 • Work Day One and Homework: Wednesday, April 30 • Break into groups • Fill in contact information on Group Responsibility Sheet • Assign resources to take notes from: • One Person: Textbook Pages and 20% of Powerpoint • Two People:Powerpoint----each person assigned 40% of Powerpoint • Two People: Supplemental Reading---each person 50% of Reading • Read and take notes in the provided graphic organizer • Update Group Responsibility Sheet and turn back in • Homework: Continue reading and note-taking.
Day Two: Thursday, May 1, 2014 • Work Day Two and Homework: Thursday, May 1 • Half of the period to finish reading and taking notes in the provided graphic organizer • Do group share of material and make sure all group members have a completed graphic organizer • Update Group Responsibility Sheet and turn back in • Homework: Create a list of ideas/rough draft for Historical Caricature
Day Three: Friday, May 2, 2014 • Work Day Three and Homework: Friday, May 2 • Finish group share of material and make sure all group members have a completed graphic organizer • Do rough draft of Historical Caricature • Assign topics to group members • Group members find visuals and print them up. • Update Group Responsibility Sheet and turn back in • Homework:Finish drawing and/or printing up visuals. Begin to write out sentences for your assigned visuals---Type them out to make it easier to edit and print.
Day Four: Monday, May 5, 2014 • Work Day Four and Homework: Monday, May 5 • Assemble Art Part of Historical Caricature on oaktag. • Update Group Responsibility Sheet and turn back in • Homework: Finish writing your sentences and typing them, so they are ready for editing with your group tomorrow. • Work on Study Guide for upcoming unit test.
Day Five: Tuesday, May 6, 2014 • Workday Five and Homework: Tuesday, May 6 • Have a group member edit your writing. • Print up the writing component. • Number the visuals to correspond with the writing component. • Update Group Responsibility Sheet and turn back in • Homework: Finish the Historical Caricature. Due next class period.
Day Six and Day Seven: Block Day • Learning Station Day One and Two: Block Day • Historical Caricatures will be hung up around the room • Have the class period to visit and take notes. • Only have the Block Period to get notes. • Homework: Work on the Take Home Short Answer Question. • Due on Monday, May 12, 2014
