  3. Exposition-The part of the story that gives the reader background information.Ex. Character intro. and setting

  4. Rising Action (Complications/Where the conflict begins)-The part of the story leading to the climax

  5. ClimaxThe high point of the plot line; the major turning point of the story; the part of the story that gives a hint on how the problem (conflict) will be resolved.

  6. Falling Action- The part of the story following the climax. This is when things start to calm down.

  7. Resolution (Denouement) This is the part of the story when the problem or conflict ends or is resolved. Do you think the resolution is always a happy one for the characters in the story?

  10. Parts of plot from Sylvester and the Magic Pebble Draw a plot line on your paper. Place the following on the correct place on a plot line. • Sylvester was reunited with his parents. • Sylvester lived at home with his parents and liked to collect rocks. • The rock was put in an iron safe to be used someday. • Sylvester’s parents had a picnic on the rock. • . Sylvester found an extraordinary rock and wished himself a rock when he saw a lion.
