Billie Holiday By:Imani Edwards
Lyrics Southern trees bear strange fruit Blood on the leaves Blood at the root Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees Pastoral scene of the gallant south The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth The scent of magnolia sweet and fresh Then the sudden smell of burning flesh Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck for the rain to gather for the wind to suck for the sun to rot for the tree to drop Here is a strange and bitter crop

Quote “If you copy , it means you’re working without any real feeling. No two people on earth are alike , and its got to be that way in in music or it isn’t music.” – Billie Holiday To me this quote means that when you don’t do your work yourself it’s not coming from you and your personality does not shine through.
Harlem Renaissance Billie Holiday was a part of the Harlem Renaissance as well as James Baldwin, and Langston Hughes. Billie Holiday’s music really spoke to people. Her life was very hard and that’s why people really related to her because she went through a lot of things that they have been through.
