  1. Describing who you are I want you to come up with five aspects that define your culture. I want you to take one of those aspects and tell me why at least two details describes you. (Think outside the box)

  2. Describing who you are • We will look at where we came from • We will look at the flow of history that we will take this year • We will look at the Native Populations in Georgia

  3. What makes you . . . you • With half of page 26 I want you to draw a family tree • Start with yourself at the bottom and go back using names as far as you can • If you don’t know much of your family make up one or use one in a movie

  5. Native American Populations • Thought to have come over from Asia across bearing straight • Native Americans evolved over time becoming more advanced socially, intellectually, and technologically • A great way to remember the order is PaleoAte Wild Mammoth or $$$$

  6. Paleo Indians • 12000-8000 BCE • Primarily Nomadic • Historic hunter gatherers • Mainly used spears • Paleo Indians lived in animal skin huts • Artifacts found in all five main regions of GA • Paleo literally means very old

  7. Archaic Indians • 8000-1000 BCE • Came from Paleo Indians primarily • Also nomadic • Created ATLATL that is used to throw spears • Also developed pottery

  8. Woodland Indians • 1000 BCE - 750 CE • First group to settle into villages • First to use bow and arrow • Still hunter gatherers but relied more on growing food (Corn) • They were the first Mound builders

  9. Mississippian Indians • 800-1600 CE • Most evolved of the original Native Americans in Georgia • They were mound builders and traders • Established Societies with Chieftains • First group to encounter Europeans like De Soto

  10. Negotiating Natives • I want you to create a four venn diagram comparing the four major groups (PAWM) • Try to come up with two in each section of your diagram • Take the entirety of page 25 to draw and fill in your chart
