What is GPPSA? Georgetown Public Policy Student Association
What is GPPSA? • GPPSA is the student government and council of the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. • GPPSA • Serves as the representative body of GPPI students • Acts as a channel for expression of student ideas and opinions • Provides a medium of communication among students of GPPI • Serves as a liaison between students and administration/faculty • Manages and allocates funding for GPPSA and GPPI’s official student organizations • Plans and sponsors a number of enriching events for GPPI students

What to Expect • This Semester • Meet with outgoing counterpart • Attend the last GPPSA meeting (April 29) • Summer • Long-term and event planning • 2013-2014 Academic Year • One General Assembly meeting per month during the academic year • Executive Board (and officer, if applicable) meetings monthly or as needed • Event planning and attendance • GPPSA committee participation
Timeline: Pre-Campaign Events • Candidate Interest Period • March 18th – March 24th (online) • Optional, non-binding • Interested persons’ names will be posted daily • Candidate Statement Period Opens • March 25th (online) • Candidate Statement Due • **April 2nd at 12:00 PM**(online) • This action places your name on the ballot • Each person may only submit one candidate statement
Timeline: Campaign Events • Candidate Statements Posted • April 2nd after 12:00 PM, Student Lounge • Campaigning Allowed • April 2nd after 12:00 PM through April 18th • Candidate Speech Night & Open Forum • **April 9th, 6:00 PM, Student Lounge** • Elections • **April 15th – April 18th ** (online) • Winner Announcement • April 19th (post-certification)
Timeline: Post-Elections Events • Last GPPSA Meeting (current and members-elect): April 29th, 9:15 PM • New GPPSA terms begin: May 17th, after Tropaia – please note that all positions will begin working with their outgoing Executive Board counterparts prior to Tropaia
Campaigning Guidelines • Candidates MAY only campaign beginning April 2nd after 12:00 PM through the end of the elections period. • Candidates MAY hang no larger than 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch flyers in the Old North Student Lounge and Computer Lab; Candidates MAY NOT hang flyers/signs/posters anywhere else in Old North, including the standing bulletin boards. • Candidates MAY make one slide for the Old North TV screen. • Candidates MAY build and use their own listservs and calendars.
Campaigning Guidelines • Candidates MAY NOT use the official GPPI listserv, GPPSA listservs, official student organization listservs, and/or GPPI/GPPSA calendars. • Candidates MAY create their own Facebook or other social networking sites. • Candidates MAY NOT request to link and/or utilize official GPPI/GPPSA Facebook/Twitter accounts and/or websites for campaigning. This restriction includes all official GPPI student organization accounts, the 2014 GPPI Facebook page, the GPPSA Website, and any other official GPPI student organization-created or GPPI-created social media or websites.
Campaigning Guidelines • Candidates MAY put campaign literature in individual student GPPI mailboxes. • Candidates MAY NOT use any course’s instructional time to campaign. • Candidates MAY use the GPPSA-maintained table in the Old North Student Lounge to solicit votes. • Candidates MAY give out baked goods, stickers, etc. First infractions will result in a warning, and any subsequent violations will result in the candidate’s name being stricken from the ballot.
