2. What is GPPSA? What does it do? • McCourt School’s elected student government • Budgeting (≈$20,000 annual budget) • Funds MSPP student groups & MSPP events • Student Advocacy & Support • Represents all students, degree programs, and student organizations before McCourt’s administration • Surveys, Curriculum Improvements, and other student concerns • Pre-registration and thesis/capstone events • Event coordination and support for student groups • Career and Networking Opportunities • Internship database, alumni panels, and Alumni board connections • Student Event Planning & Fundraising • Policy panels and policy happy hours • Policy Prom and graduation events • Orientation & mentor groups • Community service • Delicious Diversity , McCourt Debate, and other special events

MSPP Student Budget Process • The GPPSA Budget funds : • ALL student-run programming and events at MSPP • ALL MSPP Student Organizations • Early Summer • MSPP Administration allocates funds directly to GPPSA • ≈$20,000 budget, historically • Late Summer • GPPSA Officers consult with Executive Board and MSPP Student Organization leadership • Develop budget proposal • Early Fall • Budget proposal made available online for public comment • Vote on budget approval at first GPPSA meeting of fall semester

Timeline: Pre-Campaign Events • Candidate Interest Period • March 20th – March 27th(online) • Optional, non-binding • Interested persons’ names will be posted daily • Encourage others to run for vacant positions • Candidate Statement Period Opens • March 28th(online) • Candidate Statement Due • **April 4that 5:00 PM**(online) • This action places your name on the ballot • Each person may only submit one candidate statement

Timeline: Campaign Events • Candidate Statements Posted • April 4thafter 5:00 PM, Student Lounge & online • Campaigning Allowed • April 4thafter 5:00 PM through elections • Candidate Speech Night & Open Forum • **April 9th, 5:30 PM, Student Lounge** • Elections • **April 14th– April 17th ** (online) • Winner Announcement • April 18th(post-certification)

11. Timeline: Post-Elections Events • Last GPPSA Meeting (current and members-elect): April 28th, 9:15 PM • New GPPSA terms begin: • May 15th, after Commencement – please note that all positions will begin working with their outgoing Executive Board counterparts prior to graduation

12. What to Expect • This Semester • Meet with outgoing counterpart • Attend the last GPPSA meeting (April 29) • Summer • Long-term and event planning • 2013-2014 Academic Year • One General Assembly meeting per month during the academic year • Executive Board (and officer, if applicable) meetings monthly or as needed • Event planning and attendance • GPPSA committee participation

13. Campaigning Guidelines • Candidates MAY only campaign beginning April 4th after 5:00 PM through the end of the elections period. • Candidates MAY hang campaign flyers, no larger than 8.5 inches by 11 inches, in the Old North Student Lounge and Computer Lab; Candidates MAY NOT hang flyers, signs, or posters anywhere else in Old North, including the standing bulletin boards. • Candidates MAY make one slide for the Old North TV screen. Slides may be submitted to Laura Masters (lam265@georgetown.edu). • Candidates MAY build and use their own listservs and calendars.

14. Campaigning Guidelines • Candidates MAY NOT use the official MSPP listservs, GPPSA listservs, official student organization listservs, and/or MSPP/GPPSA calendars. • Candidates MAY create their own Facebook pages, web pages, or use other social networking sites. • Candidates MAY NOT request to link and/or utilize official MSPP/GPPSA Facebook/Twitter accounts and/or websites for campaigning. • Candidates MAY put campaign literature in individual student MSPP mailboxes. • Candidates MAY NOT use any course’s instructional time to campaign.

15. Campaigning Guidelines • Candidates MAY use the GPPSA-maintained table in the Old North Student Lounge to solicit votes. • Candidates MAY distribute baked goods, stickers, and other campaign related paraphernalia of nominal monetary value. • Candidates MAY NOT seek endorsement from any member of the Elections Committee nor shall any Elections Committee member endorse a candidate.
