City of Rocklin Fights for I-80 Taylor Road Off-Ramp Closure by Tomlinn Cox
Interstate 80’s exit Taylor Road/Pacific street may be on the way to being shut down.Caltrans, the State Department of Transportation, are thinking about closing this exit.
The City of Rocklin leaders, try to join with businesses to eliminate this plan. “What I want to do is just make sure that road doesn’t get closed”, said Rocklin councilmember Kathy Lunt.
A recent study done by Caltrans reports that eliminating this exit, there will be room to allow a new $250,000,000 project that would help improve I-80.
A spokesman for the Caltrans, Mark Dinger says that “this project will take years.” This project will not console business along I-80. About hundreds of thousands people pass along I-80 everyday.
“It will probably close our business,” said Meineke Car Care Center Manager Joey Taratino. “We get a lot of our business from the freeway.”
“This project could begin as early as next month’s meeting,” saidKathy Lunt.
All managers of freeway side businesses are not happy with this decision. And many more…
The Rocklin city council is expected to draft a protest letter in their next meeting. People are protesting at the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency meeting on February 24, 2010.
I chose this article because this affects tons of people including my family: • It affects my family because it is the fastest way to get to our house from the freeway and that means that my mom has to pay for more gas because it takes about five more minutes the other way. • It also affects businesses because they won’t get as many customers since that exit is closed. This is important because if they do shut it down businesses will close which means there will be more homeless people.
