  1. Workgroup for Long-Term Ground-Water Level Monitoring in MarylandOutcome of June 2002 Workshop The purpose of the workgroup is to evaluate existing ground-water level networks in Maryland in order to make recommendations for their enhancement and optimization.

  2. Goals • Evaluate current ground-water level monitoring networks. • Make recommendations to improve the network based on monitoring objectives. • Publish a report that documents the workgroup’s recommendations.

  3. Workgroup Members • County Governments • Baltimore County • Carroll County • Montgomery County • Prince George’s County • State Agencies • Maryland Geological Survey • Maryland Department of the Environment • Federal Agencies • U.S. Geological Survey

  4. Objectives of Monitoring Network(s) in Maryland • Climate variability • Ground-water use • Ground water and environmental systems • Ground-water research • Water quality* *Currently not a direct goal of the workgroup

  6. Recommendations • Make recommendations to improve the network by: • Monitoring additional wells • Discontinuing monitoring at certain wells • Changing the monitoring frequency • Workgroup will produces a jointly authored report to Council
