What Happened? Primary source – the records made by people who saw or took part in an event Example– eyewitness, journal writings, photograph, TV recording, film How will I remember? - primary = 1st
What Happened? Secondary Source – - a record of an event written by someone who was not there at the time. Example – magazine article, books newspaper article, story, rumor How will I remember this? - second = not first
Who took part in the event? Historical empathy – understanding how people acted and felt long ago Example – It was difficult to live without electricity How will I remember this? - sympathy= feel for others
Who took part in the event? Perspective– point of view • depends on age, gender, money, culture, race Example:$150 is too much for sneakers How will I remember this? Spectacles= glasses to see
When did it happen? Chronology – time order, the order in which things occur Example – on a g day you attend g, a, b classes in the morning How will I remember? - chronological order Chrono = time
How did an event happen? Cause– any action that makes something happen Example – a student yells at the teacher Effect– what happens because of that action Example – the student is given detention
Why did an event happen? Analyze – to break something into parts and see how they connect - to determine why something happened Example– the student received a detention because they yelled at the teacher
