  4. COMMUNICATIONS • Email • MSN Messenger (Need Hotmail account) • Letters • Phone Cards • Mobile phone and charger • ICE

  5. FITTING IN • Gifts for host parents • Photographs from home • Recipes from home

  6. CAMERA / MUSIC / POWER • Digital camera & memory sticks/cards • MP3 player • Power adaptor/board

  7. POSTAGE/PARCELS – AUST. POST - Poland

  8. LUGGAGE

  9. MONEY • Australian Credit Cards & Debit cards • Spare Card • Bank account in new country • Currency • Travellers’ Cheques • Banking

  10. SPECIAL OCCASIONS • Easter, Birthday, Christmas • We sent gifts, cards, etc. • Food, small items…..

  11. CLOTHES • Nothing too good or valuable – may not return • Not too tight – often put on weight • Coats for cold climates – buy over there • Need layers in cold climates • “Australian” clothes

  12. HOME SICKNESS • Hardest in first couple of weeks and some say at 4 months (Change of 1st host parent???) • Could be hard at special times of year – birthdays, holidays etc (possibly harder for parents in Oz than the YEP students!) • Christmas OK – would be home soon

  13. PROBLEMS • Guitar • Meningococcal vaccination for overseas(Most students have Type C at high school. There is also a multi-spectrum vaccination which lasts for 12 months.) • Stolen parcels (small ones)
