Q & A about theMSL Design Group Work Jennifer Prestonjennifer.preston@dpi.nc.govRttT Project Coordinator for Teacher & Leader Effectiveness
MSL Questions • Will the MSL World Language participants be meeting again? If so, when and to discuss what? • Can we expect a common summative assessment for World Languages? If so, what is it going to look like? • Has a company been secured to write exams for World Languages?
MSL Questions • Is there any chance the state will decide that World Languages are not important enough to test? • How will MSL items or state exams address different aspects of language skills, such as . . . • Creating language to form sentences and questions? • Interpersonal communication where a student demonstrates the ability to ask and answer questions? • Speaking expectations?
MSL Questions • Is the state considering creating a format/template for exams but giving districts/charters local control in creating those exams so that the tests could be aligned with: • the languages taught in their schools? • the local sequencing of units or topics? • Is there any news or update on when IIS is going to be available?
Next Steps • Share what you’re doing on the wiki and explore the resources already available (http://wlnces.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/) • Content Session PD Materials • Shared Resources from the Curriculum Workshops • Local agendas, pacing guides, resource links, etc. • Standards & Instructional Toolkit components • Review the 2011-2012 WL Webinar archives and brainstorm ideas for the 2012-2013 series • Prepare for 2012 Summer Institutes
