The Joy of Salvation Isaiah 61:9-11
The world is an unhappy place • There is much fighting, unhappiness, etc. • Christians are to be happy (Phil. 4:4)
Why are Christians happy? • We have been enlightened (Psa. 119:111,162) • We have found a treasure (Mt. 13:44) • We have been set free (Lk. 2:20; 15:6-7,9-10; Acts 8:8,39; 15:3; 16:34) • We have been offered a prize (Mt. 5:12; 1 Pet. 1:6-8; 4:13; Jude 24)
How do Christians lose their happiness? • Some Christians are no longer happy (Luke 8:13) • The newness wears off • The relationship is no longer special • The world robs them of joy
How do Christians stay happy? • Focus on Jesus, not problems (Jn. 16:20-22) • Let the Spirit’s fruit grow in you (Gal. 5:22) • Look ahead to heaven (Heb. 12:2) • Keep the “marriage” special (Jn. 3:29; Rev. 19:7)
How do Christians stay happy? • Be involved • Develop a deep family relationship
